Foot & Ankle Sprains
Sprained Ankle and Foot Care
Stabilization, Rehab, and Confident Return to Activity
A sprain happens when ligaments stretch or tear after a twist, roll, or impact. Symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising, and trouble bearing weight. We assess the injury grade and identify the type, including lateral ankle sprains, high ankle sprains, and midfoot sprains. Your visit includes a focused exam with stability tests and imaging when needed. X-rays rule out fractures, and MRI may be used for severe or persistent pain.
Treatment starts with swelling control and protection. Plans may include rest, ice, compression, elevation, pain control, and early protected motion. We use braces, boots, or taping to support healing while you stay as active as is safe. Guided rehabilitation restores range of motion, strength, and balance with sport or work specific progressions. Most sprains improve steadily with structured care and a staged return to activity.

Prevention and long-term stability are part of every plan. We address risk factors such as prior sprains, weak peroneal muscles, limited ankle motion, and poor footwear. Options can include custom or sport orthotics, proprioception training, and taping or bracing for high-risk activities. If you develop chronic instability or do not improve as expected, we discuss advanced imaging, targeted therapies, and surgical stabilization when appropriate. Our goal is a safe recovery and fewer future injuries.
