Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown Toenail Care
Gentle Relief for Redness, Swelling, and Nail Edge Pain
An ingrown toenail happens when the nail edge grows into the surrounding skin, causing tenderness, swelling, and sometimes drainage. Tight shoes, improper trimming, trauma, and curved nails are common causes. Early care helps reduce pain and prevents infection.

Your visit includes a careful exam to confirm the diagnosis and assess for infection. Conservative treatment may include warm soaks, careful lifting of the nail edge, protective padding, topical medication, and guidance on proper nail trimming and footwear. If the nail is embedded or keeps recurring, we can provide an in-office procedure with local anesthesia to remove the offending nail edge and, when appropriate, treat the nail root to prevent regrowth.
Aftercare is simple. Keep the toe clean and covered, follow soak and dressing instructions, and use antibiotics only when infection is present. Most people return to normal activity quickly with significant pain relief. We also review prevention strategies so future nail growth is comfortable and healthy.
